Remove Low-Beam Headlamp Bulb
Twist it counter-clockwise, and it will then slide out of the
projector housing.
Disconnect Low Beam Bulb Harness
Push the locking tab and slide the harness off of the bulb.
Remove Corner Lamp
There's a screw on the front of the housing - loosen the screw
so you can rotate the housing toward the rear of the car so that
you can remove the corner light.
Unbolt Headlamp Assembly
There are four 10mm bolts that secure the headlamp to the chassis -
three are accessed from the engine bay and one is accessed from
behind the corner lamp.
Move Headlamp Assembly Forward
Lift the rear of the assembly until it clears the rear of the headlamp bucket
and then lift the whole assembly out of the bucket. If you disconnect
the high-beam harness, you can remove the assembly entirely, but I just left
the harness intact, as all I needed was a little clearance.

Gather Parts for One Headlamp
You'll need a ballast, a bulb, and the associated wiring harnesses.
The kit I have had the wiring already connected to the bulb.
Attach Foam Pad to Inboard Side of Ballast Housing
Shown is the ballast housing for the left (driver) side installation.
For the right side installation, the foam should go on the opposite
side. I chose to leave the paper backing on the side that faces
away from the ballast, rather than allowing the foam to stick
to the headlamp bucket.
Attach Wiring Harness To Ballast
It will only fit on there one way, so if it doesn't want to seat fully,
you may have it upside down.
Connect Bulb Wires
The two single-wire connectors can only be attached one way - connect
each of them and ensure that the locking tabs have engaged.
Remove Bulb From Protective Housing
Unscrew the plastic housing from around the bulb. The lower ring
of the housing was permanently attached, so I just ended up breaking
it off.
Install HID Bulb In Projector Housing
Insert it just like you would an OEM bumb - slide it in, and twist clockwise
to lock it in.
Lay Ballast In Inboard Side of Headlamp Bucket
Position the ballast as shown, so that you can reinstall the headlamp
assembly with the ballast between the assembly and the inboard side of the
headlamp bucket.
Carefully Reinstall Headlamp Assembly
Reinsert the headlamp assembly, repositioning the ballast housing as
necessary to allow the headlamp assembly to seat fully into the
headlamp bucket.
Fasten Headlamp Assembly To Chassis
Same four bolts... three from the top, one behind the corner light.
Reinstall Corner Light
Connect Main Power Harness for Ballast
Connect the OEM power harness to the supply harness for the ballast.
Make sure that the red wire for the ballast is connected to the black
wire with the red stripe on the OEM harness.
Tuck Wiring Out of Sight
For a cleaner installation, you can tuck the wiring down
inside the headlamp bucket.
Repeat for Right Side Headlamp
Shown is the completed installation on the right side.
Test That New Headlamps Operate Properly
Fire 'em up and be mesmerized. It's normal for HID lights to flicker when they're
first powered on, and the ballasts will hum/buzz a little during warm-up. The lights
will also appear to have a more bluish tint to them during warm-up (5-10 seconds).

These pictures show the lights when standing to the left and right
of the car at a distance of about 2 car lengths. The lateral distance
from the side of the car is about 5 feet.

Mixed Configuration (OEM and HID)
OEM Halogen on the left; HID on the right. Camera is about 1 ft to the
left of the 3000GT, near the base of the windshield.
OEM Halogen (Left Only)
No lamp on the right side; only an OEM halogen on the left.

HID lamp installed on driver's side; no lamp on passenger's side.

OEM HID Lights From a Mazda3

Camera is about 1 ft to the
right of the Mazda3, near the base of the windshield.
Both Mazda3 and 3000GT HIDs
HIDs from both cars are energized. Picture was taken after
both cars' lights had been on for about 30 seconds, so the HID
lamps were fully warmed up.

Top two pictures are at a standing position about 2 car-lengths
in front of the vehicles.

Fog Lights On

Same position of the camera; just fog lights are now on. Both cars
have halogen fog lights. Left picture is standing and right picture
is kneeling.
